Era da Informação

A promessa da era da informação é desencadear a capacidade produtiva através da potência da mente. Eu penso, consequentemente eu produzo. Assim, nós teremos o lazer para experimentar a espiritualidade, e a oportunidade da reconciliação com a natureza, sem sacrificar o bem estar material de nossas crianças.
O sonho do iluminismo, onde a razão e a ciência que solucionariam os problemas do humanidade, está ao nosso alcance. Contudo há um buraco enorme entre (over)desenvolvimento tecnológico e o desenvolvimento social. Nossa economia, sociedade, e cultura são construídas por interesses, por valores, por instituições, e por sistemas da representação que limitam a criatividade coletiva, confiscando a “colheita” da tecnologia de informação, e desviando a nossa energia num confronto auto destrutivo.
Este tipo de relação não deve existir. Não há um eterno demônio na natureza humana. Não há nada que não pode ser mudado através de uma consciente ação social, baseada na informação, e suportada pela legitimidade. Se as pessoas estiverem informadas, ativas, e se comunicando com todo o mundo; Se os negócios assumirem a sua responsabilidade social; Se a mídia se transformar em “mensageiros” ao invés da “mensagem”; Se os políticos deixarem o cinismo, e restaurarem a crença na democracia; Se a cultura for reconstruída pela experiência; Se a humanidade sentir a solidariedade entre as pessoas por todo o globo; Se entendermos a solidariedade entre as pessoas vivendo em harmonia; Se começarmos a explorar o nosso “eu interior”, fazendo a paz entre nós. Se tudo o isso for possibilitado pela nossa informação, conscientização e por decisões compartilhadas, enquanto houver tempo, talvez, então, finalmente, poderemos viver e deixar viver, amar e ser amado. The promise of the Information Age is the unleashing of unprecedented productive capacity by the power of the mind. I think, therefore I produce. In so doing, we will have the leisure to experiment with spirituality, and the opportunity of reconciliation with nature, without sacrificing the material well-being of our children. The dream of the Enlightenment, that reason and science would solve the problems of humankind, is within reach. Yet there is an extraordinary gap between our technological overdevelopment and our social underdevelop-ment. Our economy, society, and culture are built on interests, values, institutions, and systems of representation that, by and large, limit collective creativity, confiscate the harvest of information technology, and deviate our energy into self-destructive confrontation. This state of affairs must not be. There is no eternal evil in human nature. There is nothing that cannot be changed by conscious, purposive social action, provided with information, and supported by legitimacy. If people are informed, active, and communicate throughout the world; if business assumes its social responsibility; if the media become the messengers, rather than the message; if political actors react against cynicism, and restore belief in democracy; if culture is reconstructed from experience; if humankind feels the solidarity of the species throughout the globe; if we assert intergenerational solidarity by living in harmony nature; if we depart for the exploration of our inner self, having made peace among ourselves. If all this is made possible by our informed, conscious, shared decision, while there is still time, maybe then, we may, at last, be able to live and let live, love and be loved.
